Eight college students from Laguna University (LU) and Laguna State Polytechnic University-San Pablo City Campus (LSPU-SPCC) concluded their internship program at the Agricultural Machinery Testing and Evaluation Center (AMTEC) through a Culminating Activity last May 27, 2024, at the AMTEC Conference Room.

The interns comprised seven (7) BS Mechanical Engineering students from LU and one (1) BS Industrial Technology student from LSPU-SPCC. They spent almost two months of first-hand experience in laboratory operations and other AMTEC technical activities aimed at enhancing their skills and knowledge in the field of practice.

As a culmination of their training in the Center, through the guidance of the resident Test Engineers, the interns presented their final project during the event. All of them were assigned to propose a recommendation to improve the test setups of the mechanical testing laboratory.

Meanwhile, Dr. Arthur L. Fajardo, AMTEC Director, emphasized in his message that the Center remains committed to not only maintaining the quality of the operations of AMTEC but constantly providing an avenue for students to have an actual and practical application in the field.

LU officials were also present during the event, namely: Engr. Joebert S. Melendrez (Program Chair), Engr. Julian Carl A. Barias (CES Coordinator), and Engr. Gaious Joe L. Bautista (SDS Coordinator). They expressed their gratitude to AMTEC for accommodating the students for the internship and look forward for their students to apply their experiences to complement their academic courses.

These students are the first batch of interns of AMTEC this year. For the upcoming mid-year, over 40 engineering students from across the country will be welcomed by the Center. This trust from various academic institutions solidifies the vitality of AMTEC in the field of agricultural and fisheries mechanization and will serve as a driving force for the Center to maintain its reputation as a service unit of the university.
