Over 200 high school students from the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) visited the Agricultural Machinery Testing and Evaluation Center (AMTEC) facilities last February 19, 2024, for an educational Career Trip in partnership with the UPLB Learning Resource Center (LRC)

The event was part of the UPLB LRC’s Recruitment Program for the Best and the Brightest (RPBB), which aims to introduce the academic opportunities at UPLB among Grades 9, 10, and 11 students and inspire them to be part of the next generation of leaders and innovators.

AMTEC’s resident Test Engineers and other staff, under Dr. Arthur L. Fajardo’s leadership, showcased the technologies operated at the Center. The tour included a brief orientation about the background and mandates of the Center and quick informational discussions on various testing setups and equipment in the Mechanical Testing and Sample Analysis Laboratories.

UPIS is the basic education unit of UP Diliman that offers primary and secondary education programs (Kindergarten to Grade 12), which also functions as a laboratory for their College of Education students.

The tour has not only provided an exhibit of AMTEC facilities but also given the students a first-hand observation of the modern technology used in the Center, demonstrating the university’s excellence in providing an exceptional learning environment in the field of engineering and agro-industrial technology.

Along with AMTEC, the students also dropped by the Center for Agri-Fisheries and Biosystems Mechanization (BIOMECH), and the Makiling Botanical Gardens (MBG).

As the premiere and reference testing center for agri-fishery machinery in the Philippines and an active service unit of the country’s premiere research university, AMTEC maintains its commitment to providing public service functions. One of these responsibilities is assisting the University’s instruction mandate by granting access to its laboratory facilities and knowledge transfer through its technical experts and engineers.
