Central Philippine University’s (CPU) BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) students paid a visit to the AMTEC’s Visayas Satellite Office in the Department of Agriculture (DA)- Western Visayas Integrated Agricultural Research Center (WESVIARC), Jaro, Iloilo City for an educational shop tour last March 22, 2024.

he tour aimed to orient the aspiring engineers about the technologies used to test the quality of agri-fishery machines, based on the parameters set by the Philippine National Standards (PNS). It also gave the students a first-hand experience to learn the vital factors in ensuring the efficiency of agri-fishery machines used in Philippine farms.

Engr. Franklin C. Pajaron, AMTEC’s Test Engineer and in-charge of the satellite office, briefed the students about the available testing setups in the facility. Apart from showcasing the available equipment, Engr. Pajaron also discussed the crucial role of AMTEC in achieving the country’s agricultural mechanization program.

The Visayas Satelite Office in Iloilo City performs most of the testing and evaluation operations in the region. Situated in Iloilo City, the said facility is a product made through a partnership with the DA-WESVIARC, as allies for the country’s goal to food security.

Over the years, the satellite office has upgraded its testing capabilities which led to an increase in the number of testing operations, and improved quality of agri-fishery machinery testing procedures. Specifically, it has a Sample Analysis Laboratory, dynamometers for tractors (walking-type and four-wheel) and small engines, and a number of field testing Instruments.

The establishment of AMTEC satellite offices in Visayas and Mindanao highlights the Center’s commitment, as the premier institution in the field, to extend its services across the country. It also solidifies AMTEC’s dedication to providing technical expertise for instruction and the development of new testing centers.
